The Ghost of UUCA

The ghost of UUCA is clouding our consciousness again. I look into many statements from student leaders, politicians and individual who found the fates of 4 UKM political science students; they arrested during Hulu Selangor by-election; they are been threaten. The freedom is declining further, as Malaysia recently the members of the Human Rights Council. Does not matter if we are sitting or not sitting in the highest human rights institutions, if none compliance upon our dignity and rights, thus, Malaysia is no different than any others human rights abusers within or without the membership of Human Rights Council. I lucidly say, Human Rights Council is losing its credibility and ineptness over human rights woes across the world.
Back to the case recently, they were allegedly expressing support over Pakatan Rakyat campaign, therefore, they were caught with campaign materials in their vehicles. According to them (oppressors), they are deserts to be under UUCA.

Who are the oppressors? For certain, they are Khaled Nordin, Sharipah, and Barisan Nasional government. They speak cogently on the towering personality and first class university all the time, but practically, they have no idea of what they are talking about. They are charlatans. It is up to us to defends or let the freedom and democracy disappear gradually. Quite some time, I observes many of us campaigning seeking their justice through Facebook, blogs and congregates submitting memorandum to SUHAKAM. I also observe, solidarity among the students groups are intact and united against despicable of UUCA. I believe the more pressure and tense the government put on us, it will never dilute and defeats our purposes.

How unfortunate, they are deaf and mute when it comes to freedom, democracy and the rule of law. I wonder whether university destines for regulation or market place of ideas to be questions and debates. Regulation is bad in nature. It hobbling our thinking, movements, ideas and emotion towards certain of time and subjects. Worst, university is running under the guise of mercenary thinking! We are unable to express vehemently in the way of, while prevailing justice and democracy. We have the ideas to share with the others, but somehow, the regulation seems restrict us to be bold. No guts to admonish them prior to level of sensitivities and seditious.

Thus, we are unable to be critical in questioning and beseeching the ultimate truth. That is why; I want UUCA to be abolished. For me, I mean, UUCA is define as cynical regulation, which was designed to create fear and concedes that the enforcement went very well since then. Best to describe, the song in Animal Farm (1972) by George Orwell ran with;

For that day we all must labour,

Though we die before it break;

Cows and horses, geese and turkeys,

All must toil for freedom's sake.

The periods of aggressive national student movements in late 1970's, it has turned dull and dissipating to some of the faiths and foundation which used to be firm and adamantly. The voracious and the momentum of the movement we witness and read in 1970's is very difficult to rejuvenates because the needs and the willingness of many of us, apparently inadequate and divided to many self interest, although SMM was formed to accommodates various stakeholders clinching its victory; students and peoples power.

Nevertheless, we remains fit and survive to look for askance beyond UUCA. We are very confidence to advocates the abolish ISA, Printing Acts, Emergency Ordinance and more. Education through civic awareness is pertinent task to empowering society particularly youths to defend and promotes their rights. We are promulgating the Federal Constitution to be subjects in Malaysians thinking. The more understanding and consciousness they have, the more power they have to make a difference in the future. We are continuing renews our pledges and commitment for a better Malaysia. Protesting is not the subjects matter to student movements, I think, critical thinking shall be part of the quality of the individual and their associations.

Let us talk about women. Although, today’s agenda is searching for Kartika, yet, it is all about the women who seek justice, fairness and equality in the modern society. Malaysians have different thinking about the women. What is exactly women represent for, especially within our minds? They are the objects of sexuality. They are the properties of the male to trade with. They are not fit to be the leaders. They are cultured to be housewife. They are not the main contributor to the economy of nations. They are gorgeous, temptation and detrimental to other marriages. We tend to put women must alike with Ali Larter, Megan Fox, Britney Spears and Leighton Meester. I love them so much. We like them. They are idols of all. Like just Rabindranath Tagore wrote in his essay of women "And because of women has this power, she exercises such charm over our mind; her exuberance of vital interest is so attractive that it makes her speech, her laughter, her movement, everything graceful; for the note of gracefulness is in this harmony with all our surrounding interest"

Plenty of ideas and perception on women.

Looking back at Greek Illiad by Homer of centuries ago, women have imbued the story line of Achilles perseverance tragically. We heard heavy pressures by women groups on Kartika whipping case not too long ago. Kartika is very popular (covered in WSJ and Financial Times) because of the barbaric intervention by the state under the guise of Islam. As Professor Shad Saleem Faruqi said, Malaysia is veering into Talibanization.

Very articulates in his reasons, Islam according to him is symbols of hijab, scarf, beard and white Haji clothes or tasbih. Symbols which I think, others agreed that has preoccupying us for a very long period. We lost the real significance of the truth of Islam. Who speaks for Islam? What is the Quran purpose for? It is not the law. It is basically, similar to Bible and Torah; the way of life of human beings on earth. We were taught in school about all these without questioning. The woes of education system in Malaysia are another debacle, government need to look into.

I am raising this concern as we all do; our country is going to another way of civilization. More cruel and brutal in the sense that, extremists tend to presumes Malaysia is Islamic state. Islamic state encompassing Islamic laws and all their way of life. Non Muslims are as well, affected by these beliefs. Are we saying, we allows of how most Islamic Middle East countries practice their Islamic laws upon the society here, especially the women? Punish them because of laughing openly on the street, wearing jeans, wearing makeups, or wearing short skirts?

I think because of these, our young peoples are getting more conservatives subjecting to religion. They espousing Islamic country, specifically when it come to Islamic laws. That’s was when Kartika, one of many weak and ordinary women get caught of drinking wine by religious authorities. Ala Acheh Islamic law practice recommended by quite numbers of Muslim Malaysians. Very barbaric thinking and outmoded. Whipping and humiliates her in the public should not be seen as confining themselves to only certain period of history. Make it alive, as Prof Shad said, encourage more debates and discussion.

We are more civilizes and we also promoting many pristine ideas which less numbers of peoples arguing for since many times; human rights, rule of law and democracy.

Openness and matures among the modern world society allows us to be more proactive and aware of these beliefs must be defended and more crucial, the capacity to promotes them indisputably. Peoples enlighten to be attached to the issues rather than leaning on gender and sexes.

However, more is need to be done. Daunting tasks ahead of us is retarding the effort to get what the women want. They want their equal rights in law, thus, reforming laws. Others demands, for examples, the custody of children, divorces claims, family relations, access to labors, child care, women participation in politics, address biases women to be leaders, and raising the awareness of human rights continuously.

Luckily God has sent women to earth. A woman to love. I'm still searching for her to love with. Somebody to love.
